New Electrolyser Delivery – ZTT Partnership

In March 2025, HyWaves signed an MOU with ZTTCE Hydrogen, a specialist division of the ZTT Group focused on advanced hydrogen systems. This partnership has now seen the deployment of ZTTCE’s first electrolyser in the UK that will be integrated with the HyWaves H2Top Power Management and Control Architecture.

Our Cranfield-based test site has now taken delivery of the electrolyser, along with all supporting equipment, housed in a custom-engineered hydrogen container.

This deployment marks a key milestone in our system development programme, designed to validate H2Top across both major electrolyser technologies: proton exchange membrane (PEM) and alkaline. The newly arrived ZTT unit now sits alongside our operational PEM system, enhancing our facility’s testing and demonstration capabilities.

Alkaline electrolysers account for approximately 70% of the global installed hydrogen production capacity. The stack type is typically favoured over PEM on larger hydrogen production sites where there is a stable grid connection. They struggle to be powered directly with variable renewable energy, making their use in an off-grid site problematic. This is exactly where the HyWaves system can address one of the current limitations of the stack type by enabling direct integration with solar and other fluctuating energy sources without the need for traditional power electronics.

In the coming weeks, our team will commission the unit and configure the HyWaves Power Management and Control Architecture to power the stack directly from solar energy. This innovative approach pushes the boundaries of what is possible with alkaline technology in dynamic energy environments.

ZTT is in a growing list of industry partners backing HyWaves, recognising the transformative potential of our technology in the evolving hydrogen economy.
