Our Story

HyWaves is a clean technology company on a mission to make green hydrogen accessible, affordable, and truly renewable.

Founded in 2022 by Ugo Manfredi, Niall Haughian, and Thomas Delaney, HyWaves was created to tackle one of the biggest barriers to green hydrogen adoption: cost. Drawing on over 40 years of experience in the solar industry, theoretical physicist Ugo Manfredi set out to explore how solar technologies could bring down the price of hydrogen production. What began as a bold idea has since evolved into a growing company backed by government support and private investment.

Unlike traditional electrolyser manufacturers who treat power supply as an afterthought, HyWaves takes a fundamentally different approach. We focus on enabling electrolysers to be powered directly and affordably by colocated solar energy, eliminating the need for expensive, carbon-intensive grid electricity. Our proprietary H2Top technology integrates smart controls and system design to maximise efficiency and reduce the cost per kilogram of hydrogen.

Based at Cranfield University, we are currently validating our system through two pilot solar-to-hydrogen plants, using both alkaline and PEM electrolysers. We are working in partnership with industry supporters such as BP, EDP and ABB. These projects are helping us refine our technology and demonstrate how green hydrogen can be produced economically and reliably at scale.

Our goal is clear, accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen by solving the cost challenge at its root. Whether for shipping, industry, or remote power, we believe hydrogen should be clean, cost-effective, and readily available.
